Gujarat is a state in the North-West coast of India. It is known locally as Jewel of the West. Gujarat was known to the Ancient Greeks, the various Persian Empires, the Roman Republic, and familiar in other Western centers of civilization through the end of the European Middle Ages. Gujarat's major cities include Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar and Junagadh .
Gujarat has the largest business corporations in India. The world's largest shipbreaking yard is in Gujarat near Bhavnagar at Alang. Major agricultural produce of the state includes cotton, groundnuts (peanuts), dates, sugar cane, milk and milk products. Industrial products include cement and petrol.
